R.Power advances 200 MWh Romanian battery project

European independent power producer R.Power is progressing its second utility-scale battery-storage project in Romania.

The 100 MW/200 MWh Studina battery energy storage system will be developed in Olt County and connected to Romania’s national distribution network.

Construction is expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2026, with grid connection scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.

Studina will be located near R.Power’s 127 MW/254 MWh Scornicești battery project, which is approaching completion. Both are standalone systems designed to provide additional flexibility, stability and energy security to the Romanian electricity network.

The development forms part of ifs wider Central and Eastern European storage pipeline. The company has approximately 0.9 GW/3 GWh of assets operating or under construction, as well as 0.7 GW/2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build projects.

Florin Federenciuc, R.Power’s country head for Romania, said the company was moving Studina forward after progressing Scornicești through financing, commercialisation and construction.

R.Power has 1.9 GW of renewable-energy projects operating or under construction across Europe. Its shareholders include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund, which is advised by Amber Infrastructure.

The company has not yet disclosed how Studina will be financed, which markets or grid services will provide its revenues, or whether it has secured a long-term offtake or optimisation agreement.
